Motorcyclists and cyclists can stay safe on the roads

It may not be surprising to find out that the number of cyclist deaths increases in the summer. After all, this is when more people choose to ride their bikes. Motorcyclist and bicyclist deaths both increase during this time because the vehicles aren't as expected as larger passenger cars and trucks.

Despite that, both motorcyclists and cyclists have a right to the road, so it's necessary for drivers to pay attention and give them space. They need to be aware of the potential for riders to be on the roads and to keep a safe distance from them to prevent accidents.

What can motorcyclists do to stay safer?

Motorcyclists can stay safer by acting in predictable ways and slowing down. It's always a good idea to wear a helmet and to ride defensively. Slow down, so if an accident occurs, it won't be as serious.

What should bicyclists do to stay safer?

A good idea for bicyclists is to think like a driver. Imagine what you would do if you were approaching a cyclist on the roads and react accordingly. Signal when you want to make turns, and do what you can to stay visible.

Any time you are riding on the roads, you need to wear appropriate head gear and safety attire. For either motorcyclists or cyclists, helmets provide safety that can't be matched. Consider wearing brightly colored clothing and reflective gear any time you ride.

With these tips, you can stay safer. If you're struck, remember that you have a right to seek help for your injuries and to file a claim.
